Boron nitride ceramics can be used to manufacture high speed cutting tools and drill bits for geological exploration and oil drilling because they are not wettable by molten aluminum and can protect the surface of materials in direct contact with molten aluminum, magnesium, zinc alloys and their slag.
In addition, boron nitride ceramics have excellent machining properties, so they can also be made into high-temperature, insulating and cooling components, as well as special electrolytic materials and resistance materials that can be used at high temperatures.
High temperature insulating materials generally need to meet the basic requirements of high melting point, moderate amount of high collapse resistance and chemical compatibility at high temperature. Boron nitride ceramics have only a high melting point and considerable resistivity at high temperatures. In particular, hexagonal sheet boron nitride ceramics have the advantages of low friction coefficient at high temperature and similar thermal expansion coefficient to tungsten, which will become an ideal high temperature insulating material.
